A Way to Give Back

Donate to Help Preserve and Protect the A.T.

Since 1930 the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club has maintained, managed and protected the Appalachian National Scenic Trail in Georgia through the efforts of volunteers from its membership and more broadly from people who love the trail or simply want to contribute to our nation’s outdoor resources. A donation to GATC does exactly that — it helps our club continue this valuable work.

Many people who have hiked all or a portion of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine over the past decades have found that a donation to GATC is a good way to give back to the A.T. that gave so much to them through the hiking experience.

Donations to GATC are used in a variety of ways – everything from repairing a trail shelter or buying Pulaskis for trail work to buying crosscut saws, which our volunteers have to use in the Wilderness portion of the A.T. in Georgia to clear downed trees in the trail corridor.

Although all the 78 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Georgia are within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest, private development near the A.T. corridor in several locations is a growing concern that GATC tries to mitigate through land acquisition. Donations to GATC can be designated to a restricted fund to be used for property purchases that will protect the A.T. corridor for generations to come.

Funds

Donations to GATC can be specified for the following funds:

  • Unrestricted use for any GATC function or need
  • Land acquisition that will help GATC protect and preserve the A.T. corridor.
  • Outreach, education and conservation programs.
  • Tools, equipment and training or certifications that will help GATC maintain the A.T. treadway and trail structures.
