**WORKSHOP** INTRODUCTION TO ROCK WORK

**WORKSHOP** INTRODUCTION TO ROCK WORK.  This workshop will be led by Tom Lamb, Chair of the Rock Crew and GATC Trails Supervisor.  Tom periodically spends many trail hours with the Jolly Rovers in New York, a leading volunteer rock crew, and brings back his knowledge of current best management practices to the GATC Rock Crew. Recommended for anyone, regardless of experience, who has not worked with the GATC Rock Crew to learn procedures as specifically practiced by the crew.  Learn the basics of rock crew work and safety while working with rocks on the trail.  Participants will be introduced to the use of specialized rock-work equipment, including the setup and operation of the rope puller and belay device, and the use of snatch rings.  Maneuvering rock with rock bars, pick mattocks, and rock nets.  Splitting rock using an electric drill, carbide hammer sets and feathers and wedges.  Shaping rocks using a carbide hammer point, wedges, and chisels.  This workshop is recommended, though not required, for anyone taking the Rock Step Workshop.  If you need additional information, please contact Tom Lamb at tomlamb377@gmail.com
