GA4000 Challenge Series – Rich Knob and Hightower Bald

The hike starts in North Carolina using an old trail and proceeds up steeply to Bly Gap where we intersect with the A.T.. We will take the A.T. southbound for .3 miles into GA before turning off the trail. A steep bushwhack up to Rich Knob (Elev. 4,150 feet) is followed by a 1.2-mile long downhill and then uphill bushwhack to Hightower Bald (Elev. 4,590 feet). The return hike requires a re-climb to Rich Knob and a long downhill to the trailhead using the same trail from Bly Gap.This is a strenuous hike of 10 miles with extensive bushwhacking off trail.
