Berry College and the House o’Dreams
We’ll drive to the mountain campus where we’ll start the hike, a total of 6 miles to the House o’ Dreams atop Lavender Mountain at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The House o’ Dreams is a large stone and board-and-batten cottage built in 1922 by students and staff as a gift to Miss Berry on the 20th anniversary of the Schools. At 1,360 feet above sea level above Frost Chapel, there is a superb view of the mountain campus, the reservoir, the city of Rome, the Northwest Georgia area, and neighboring states of Alabama and Tennessee. We’ll enjoy a snack break in the gardens and take advantage of the facilities known as the Outhouse o’ Dreams. The hike is on a forest service road and is a gentle, steady climb for the entirety of the hike–about 900 ft. in three miles.
