A.T. Sampler: Woody Gap to Gooch Mountain Shelter and Back

Come get acquainted or re-acquainted with the A.T. on this pretty, leafy stretch. Meeting at Woody Gap, we’ll take in the view from the parking lot then hike southbound at a moderate pace, catching a great view from atop Ramrock Mountain before descending toward Gooch Gap. After a short pause at the gap and perhaps a chat with any thru-hikers, we’ll continue to the Gooch shelter for a snack/lunch break. This is a good chance to inspect the shelter, tent sites, privy, and the water source at Blackwell Creek. Then we hit the trail back up to Woody Gap. The pace will be steady and moderate, covering 9.6 miles in about five hours including breaks. Please meet at 8:15 so we can sign waivers and make introductions before starting out at 8:30.
