Hikers backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia should take the necessary steps to safeguard their food when staying overnight along the A.T. Both the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy recommend that hikers use a hard shell bear canister to store their food and other smellable items.
