Mid Week Work Trip – Jack’s Knob Trail
Section 8.14-Jacks Knob Trail is used by thousands of hikers each year to reach the A.T.ds, Chattahoochee Gap & Chattahoochee River headwaters. Come join the fun and work off some of those extra T-day pounds! There are several sections of sidehill cut with trail slippage and tread issues that require tread restoration. Improvements will include backslope, tread & critical edge restoration, berm removal, water dip maintenance and possibly installation of several check steps (TBD). We’ll meet at Jacks Gap parking lot on Georgia Highway 180 where Spur 180 heads uphill to Brasstown Bald. Plan to be parked and prepped for our safety briefing at 9 am sharp. It’s a moderate 1/2 to 3/4 mile hike in to the various flagged work sites. We plan to finish the work by 3 pm and head back to our vehicles where drinks and snacks will be furnished. Bring your lunch, water or other liquids. Early December mountain weather can be volatile so dress accordingly (layers recommended). Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required including long pants, sturdy boots/shoes, gloves, hard hat and protective eyewear if the particular work requires. Hard hats and gloves will be provided if you don’t have your own. If you need additional information, please contact Steve Bloomingdale at dr_steve@windstream.net
