The U.S. Forest Service has issued a new Food Safety Rule

The Chattahoochee National Forest has issued a new rule about food safety. Campers and hikers within the Chattahoochee National Forest are now required to take certain steps to store their food and smellable items when camping overnight. Hikers backpacking on the Appalachian Trail in Georgia should understand the new rule and take the necessary steps to safeguard their food when staying overnight along the A.T. Both the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy recommend that hikers use a hard shell bear canister to store their food and other smellable items.
