Halloween Backpack in the Smokies

The traditional GATC Halloween Backpack trip for this year will start in the Cade’s Cove area of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The first day begins at Anthony Creek Trailhead and continues up to the Appalachian Trail near Bote Mountain and heads south over Mount Squires to the Russell Field Shelter, for a total of 8.1 miles. The second day the group will descend down the Anthony Creek Trail from the Russell Field Shelter back to the trailhead for a total of 5.1 miles.

The hike will be led by GATC veteran backpack leaders Jeff Supper and Bill Cawthorne. This trip has a group limit. The hike is rated more than 13 miles, moderate pace (1.5 to 2.5 mph) and very strenuous terrain.
